A Legacy Spanning Generations
Multi-Generational Heritage of Enterprise, Integrity & Stewardship
BK Investment Group (BKIG) is grounded in a profound legacy of craftsmanship, intellect, and entrepreneurial vision. Our family history spans pioneering agriculture, industrial innovation, capital markets, and scientific achievement. Across both sides of the family — Verrall, Duncan, and Somerville — runs a clear thread: build with purpose, act with integrity, and invest for the generations to come.
Verrall Legacy
Sussex to Sydney. Founders. Farmers. Pioneers.
In 1844, George and Sarah Verrall arrived in Sydney from Sussex, England, eventually settling in Ipswich, Queensland, where they would raise 14 children and shape the agricultural and social fabric of the region.
George Verrall was one of the first to introduce wheat and cotton to the Western Moreton District, and also cultivated oranges and grapevines, laying early roots of innovation in the region. The land he acquired in Ipswich became both a family estate and a driver of regional development. He also owned valuable coal and mining property, establishing a foundation in both agriculture and resource industries.
Their original land, The Verrall Estate is now home to Verrall Park, a commemorative public space that includes picnic areas, recreation facilities, and the family’s historical gravesites. It stands today as a tribute to their pioneering legacy and community contribution.
Generations of Stewardship
In the decades following George and Sarah Verrall’s pioneering settlement, successive generations upheld the family’s legacy of integrity, resilience, and progress. Walter Graham Verrall, master carpenter and early investor, laid a firm foundation for the transition from physical labour to financial stewardship through disciplined craftsmanship and quiet investing.
His son, Adrian H. Verrall, carried this tradition forward as a principled investor, overseeing the growth and preservation of the family’s wealth. Together, their legacies form a continuous thread — from timber and tools to capital and compounding — each marked by diligence, commitment, and steadfast resolve.
Through this evolution, the Verrall family has remained steadfast in its foundational principles, ensuring that the values of past generations continue to guide those that follow.

Kay Duncan, the matriarch of our family, was a pioneering force in Australian industry. In the mid-20th century, she established and operated both a gold factory and a carpet manufacturing business on the Gold Coast — rare accomplishments for a woman of her time. Her sharp business instincts and dedication to craftsmanship set the foundation for a legacy that continues to shape our values today. Her drive, resilience, and commitment to quality laid the groundwork for a legacy of enterprise.

Design with Distinction
In the early to mid-1990s, Michelle L. Verrall established herself as a leading figure in Australian children’s fashion, creating a beloved clothing line known for its exceptional quality, refined craftsmanship, and distinctive one-off designs. Her collections stood apart not only for their aesthetic, but for the care and individuality woven into every piece.Renowned for her exclusive creations, Michelle’s work garnered significant attention—including an approach from David Jones to expand her line into national retail. Yet, true to her values, she chose not to mass-produce. Her commitment to originality and excellence remains a touchstone for future generations.
Dr. Brodie Verrall
A Legacy of Scientific Pursuit —
Continued Through Data, Discovery & Innovation

As Chief Data & Science Officer at BKIG, he leads quantitative research and algorithmic development across the firm’s proprietary platforms. His work powers the group’s trading infrastructure and systematic strategies, aligning long-term capital with adaptive intelligence.
With a PhD in a data-intensive discipline and deep expertise in machine learning, predictive modelling, and scalable systems, Brodie continues the scientific legacy of the Somerville family — most notably through his paternal great-grandmother’s lineage to Mary Somerville, one of the most influential scientific minds of her era.
Today, Brodie brings that legacy into the age of artificial intelligence — designing adaptive systems that learn, evolve, and operate at scale. His contributions reflect a belief held across generations: that knowledge, when applied with clarity and discipline, is one of the most enduring forms of capital.

Rida Verrall
Fifth Generation | A Legacy in Bloom
Daughter of Dr. Brodie Verrall, and granddaughter of Adrian H. and Michelle L. Verrall, Rida represents the emerging future of a multi-generational legacy shaped by leadership, intellect, and cultural depth.
The Verrall Family
Pioneers of the Western Moreton Region
Our roots trace back to George and Sarah Verrall, early settlers who arrived in Sydney in 1844 before establishing their home in Ipswich, Queensland. As the first to introduce wheat and cotton to the region, George helped lay the foundation of Queensland’s early agricultural economy. Their 14 children carried forward this pioneering spirit.
The Verrall Estate eventually became the site of Verrall Park, now a preserved public landmark in Collingwood Park, home to community amenities and the family’s historic gravesites. This land represents both physical and symbolic ground for our legacy — cultivated with vision and integrity.
In the next generation, Walter Graham Verrall, a skilled carpenter and self-made investor, transitioned the family toward financial markets. He quietly built a portfolio of equities while continuing his trade, setting the foundation for what would become BKIG’s legacy of capital stewardship.

Somerville Connection
A Legacy of Knowledge & Public Service
On the paternal side, the Somerville family brings an equally distinguished heritage. Delcia Somerville, a descendant of the renowned Scottish polymath Mary Somerville, is part of a lineage celebrated for its intellectual and societal impact. Mary Somerville — for whom Somerville College at Oxford and Somerville House in Brisbane are named — is currently featured on the £10 Scottish banknote, symbolising her status as a pioneer of women in science.
The Somerville family also established Somerville Funeral Homes, a name known for compassionate service across generations. This legacy speaks to a deep-rooted tradition of care, dignity, and community trust.

Somerville House
Somerville House in Brisbane, Australia, is named after the Scottish scientist and writer Mary Somerville. Initially established as Brisbane High School for Girls in 1899, it was renamed in 1920 to honor Mary Somerville, renowned for her contributions to mathematics and astronomy. The school adopted this name upon relocating to its current site in South Brisbane.
Delcia’s granddaughter, Eleanor Verrall, currently attends Somerville House. This connection reflects the continuing legacy of educational excellence and intellectual curiosity valued across generations of the family.

Somerville College
Motto : Donec rursus impleat orbem
(translated: Until it should fill the world again)
Oxford, United Kingdom
Est. 1879
Somerville College, Oxford's motto is "Donec rursus impleat orbem". This motto was originally the motto of the family of Mary Somerville, who befriended the newly founded hall. The college adopted the Somerville family arms and motto.

Mary Somerville

Scientist Mary Somerville is the first woman other than a royal to appear on a Royal Bank of Scotland banknote. Mary Somerville’s immense contribution to science and her determination to succeed against all the odds clearly resonate as much today as they did during her lifetime.
Born in 1780, Somerville’s relative wealth allowed her access to education in astronomy and geography, despite living in an age when women were discouraged from studying science. She is credited with an instrumental role in the discovery of Neptune, thanks to her writing on a hypothetical planet perturbing the orbit of Uranus.
Somerville, who died in 1872, is also indelibly linked to the advancement of women in academia, having given her name to the Oxford college that initially only admitted women.
Alumni of Somerville College, founded in 1879, include the former prime minister Margaret Thatcher, the TV presenter Esther Rantzen and the former Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi.
Duncan Lineage
Surfers Paradise Legacy & Industrial Visionaries
On the maternal side of the family, William Duncan was among the first landholders in Surfers Paradise, shaping the early identity of what is now one of Australia’s most iconic regions. His contribution is honoured in the naming of William Duncan State School and William Duncan Park, enduring institutions in the Gold Coast region.
His entrepreneurial legacy continued through his Duncan lineage with Kay Watts (nee Duncan), who built a gold factory and carpet factory in Queensland — both rare and remarkable ventures for a woman of her time. Her vision and business success became foundational to the family’s industrial story.
Her daughter continues this tradition today as the operator of World Carpets, a continuation of the family brand that still supplies and services across Queensland, upholding the Duncan legacy with pride and excellence.
Across the broader Duncan lineage are professional athletes, prominent property developers, and business owners — individuals who carry forward the family’s entrepreneurial drive in both business and leadership.

With a disciplined, long-term approach, he quietly compounded wealth over decades, laying the foundation for what would become BKIG.
He believed in hard work, measured risk, and the patience to let time do the heavy lifting. Walter’s unique ability to balance hands-on craftsmanship with thoughtful investing became a blueprint of stewardship and foresight for generations to follow.

Walter Graham Verrall was a master craftsman and early investor whose disciplined approach to wealth-building laid the financial foundation for future generations. A man of quiet resolve, Walter believed in the power of long-term thinking, patient capital, and self-reliance — principles that continue to guide BKIG’s investment philosophy today.

A Legacy Stitched with Care
A talented seamstress and quiet matriarch, Delica Verrall expressed her devotion through craft, detail, and love woven into every thread. Known for her skill and refinement, she created garments not simply as clothing, but as lasting expressions of care. One such piece—a handmade dress she crafted for the baptism of her first grandchild Brittany K. Verrall—remains a cherished symbol of her presence, artistry, and legacy.
Her work was more than domestic skill; it was a reflection of enduring values passed down through generations: pride in one’s work, devotion to family, and the beauty of doing things well. In her quiet way, Delica stitched strength, grace, and tradition into the very fabric of our family story.

Verrall Estate
Historical Legacy
The Verrall Family Pioneer Graves, stands as one of Ipswich’s few preserved pioneer landmarks.
It rests on the same soil once cultivated for Queensland’s first wheat crops — a tangible reminder that all enduring growth begins with planting something meaningful.

Verrall Estate
& the Hoop Pines
Living Landmarks of a Pioneering Legacy
Planted over a century ago by the Verrall family, the hoop pines on the original Collingwood Park estate remain living sentinels of early agricultural life in Queensland. These towering trees were carefully cultivated to provide durable timber and shelter for crops and livestock — a testament to George Verrall’s foresight as a land steward and agricultural pioneer.
Today, the hoop pines remain a defining presence in the landscape of Verrall Park — living symbols of the family’s enduring connection to the land and its early agricultural heritage. As part of a protected historical site, they serve not only as a natural landmark but as a symbol of resilience, sustainability, and generational care for the land.

Section IV:
A Legacy Preserved, A Future Protected
Across every line of the family, one principle remains constant: we are custodians, not owners. The businesses, properties, and capital
we manage today are not tools of personal ambition — they are acts of stewardship, honouring those who came before and empowering those who will follow.
BKIG is the living embodiment of this principle — where heritage meets innovation, and where strategy is guided by legacy.
We don’t manage capital to grow it. We manage it to honour where it came from — and to preserve it for those yet to come.
A Multi-Generational Story of Enterprise, Innovation & Stewardship
BK Investment Group (BKIG) is more than a family office — it is the living legacy of a lineage shaped by industry, intellect, and long-term value creation. Across generations, the Verrall, Duncan, and Somerville families have contributed to their communities through pioneering leadership, business innovation, and a steadfast commitment to integrity.
From Pioneers of the Land to Stewards of Capital
Generations of Enterprise and Integrity
BKIG stands on the foundation built by our forebears — individuals who transformed farmland, built industries, and cultivated ideas. Today, we honour their legacy by applying the same values of resilience, foresight, and stewardship to the management of private capital.
Legacy is not what you leave behind. It’s what you protect while you’re here.
